AUTHOR
ANGELES ECHOLS

Author Angeles Echols is a passionate educator, visionary leader, and fierce advocate for the academic, emotional and professional development of at risk, low-income, marginalized children of color.

Her compelling journey started with a move to New York City from Cornell University where substitute teaching helped pay her bills while she landed roles in off Broadway productions and bus and truck tours. These early years in education paved the way for her move to Los Angeles in the mid 1980’s for film and television roles. She found part-time roles while teaching, tutoring and mentoring at-risk youth, her true calling. It was by tutoring kids in her one-bedroom apartment on Wilton Boulevard that she realized she could find more meaning and have a greater impact.

Her vision and leadership in the development of Educating Young Minds (EYM) an after-school tutorial and enrichment program and Access/ No Excuse (ANE), an education, career guided digital platform, reshaped the way EYM students were educated post pandemic, providing 24/7 on-line access to a STEM based curriculum in English and Spanish.

Its unique innovation distinguishes itself from other programs by also providing career resources to empower and engage her students to complete their studies and provide pathways to future careers. "Her faith, prayers, and determination enabled her to coalesce the networks of family; friends; and community, foundation, and corporate leaders she had nurtured for more than 35 years.

This is not Angeles Echols' first foray into writing. She is the author of interactive bio- Ray Charles, The Man. The Music, The Legacy (commissioned by the Ray Charles Foundation).
